Statistics Portal

portalmathstatisticslecture

1Overview

Statistics summarizes observed data and analyzes distributions and relationships between variables. This portal recommends descriptive statistics for one-variable data as an introduction, then separates the probability-distribution path from the correlation-and-regression path. Required prerequisites for the probability-distribution path are stated separately for each lecture.

2Recommended introduction

Use the mean, variance, and standard deviation to describe the center and dispersion of data. This stage does not require probability theory.

3Probability-distribution path

After studying random variables and probability, introduce probability distributions. The normal-distribution lecture additionally requires foundational integration, double integrals, and polar-coordinate transformations.

4Correlation-and-regression path

For two-variable data, use the correlation coefficient to summarize the direction and strength of a linear relationship, and use a regression line to explain one variable in terms of the other. This path requires the mean, variance, and standard deviation, but not the normal distribution.
